1/72 IJN Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo 1/72 IJN Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo

1/72 IJN Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo: 61 cm Pure Oxygen Surface Warfare Ordnance Fidelity

Bring an exceptional layer of technical density, structural authority, and naval combat realism to the torpedo mounts, deck reload racks, and open handling tracks of your large-format Imperial Japanese Navy models with the masterfully engineered 1/72 Scale IJN Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo. Revered as the most technologically advanced and lethal naval torpedo deployed during World War II, the 61 cm (24 in) Type 93 "Long Lance" utilized a revolutionary compressed pure-oxygen propulsion system paired with kerosene fuel. This groundbreaking design enabled blistering speeds of nearly 50 knots, an extraordinary operational range exceeding 20 nautical miles, and a massive 1,080-pound (490 kg) Type 97 explosive warhead, leaving virtually no visible wake of telltale nitrogen bubbles. Deployed aboard IJN destroyers (Kagero, Fubuki, Yugumo, Shimakaze classes) and heavy cruisers, the Type 93 devastated Allied surface forces throughout the Night Battles of Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands Campaign. Scaled to the commanding 1/72 builder scale, this dedicated ordnance replica faithfully captures the ogival warhead, forward pure-oxygen vessel flask, kerosene tank bands, four-cylinder double-acting engine compartment, steering control linkages, and counter-rotating twin propellers of original Kure Naval Arsenal blueprints with flawless structural fidelity.

Engineering Precision and Imperial Japanese Naval Torpedo Architecture

At 1/72 scale, external deck-mounted torpedoes and reload rack payloads sit right at eye level, where out-of-round plastic tubes, fused propeller blades, missing guide studs, and thick mold parting lines typical of mass-production plastic kits or heavy white-metal castings severely detract from an ambitious fleet build. This replica Type 93 torpedo captures the hydrodynamic, high-precision geometry of wartime Japanese underwater ordnance with surgical micro-clarity. Deployed inside an open torpedo tube carriage, secured along midships reload reserve skids, or displayed on maintenance trestles in a dockside diorama, the assembly features true-to-scale physical relief, creating realistic physical shadow lines and deep mechanical contrast that standard kit placeholders cannot match.

  • Museum-Quality Arsenal Replication: Developed using original technical layouts, historical Imperial Japanese Navy technical bureau blueprints, and Kure Naval Arsenal records to accurately reproduce the exact physical dimensions, 61 cm caliber proportion, ogival warhead curvature, and mechanical tail cone geometry of the operational Type 93 Model 1, Modification 2.
  • Prototypical 1/72 Scale Scope: Specifically engineered for large-format 1/72 scale Japanese warship models, destroyer torpedo deckhouse displays, reload trolley diorama scenes, and museum-grade maritime ordnance presentations.
  • Exposed Hardware & Mechanical Detail: Authentically captures the contact exploder pistol nose, warhead joint fastener band, pressurized oxygen vessel seams, recessed lifting lugs, guide studs, rudders, elevators, and razor-sharp counter-rotating twin four-bladed propellers.
  • True-to-Scale Volumetric Depth: Replicates the imposing physical three-dimensional presence of cold-drawn nickel-chromium steel and bronze alloy propulsion components, casting realistic deep shadows between the counter-rotating propeller hubs and behind the directional tail fins.
  • Streamlined Integration: Engineered with precision-molded cylindrical alignment and smooth contact surfaces designed to slide cleanly, squarely, and securely into standard 1/72 scale torpedo launch tubes, reload skids, or display cradles, drastically reducing assembly friction and streamlining installation.
  • Intelligent Structural Engineering: Expertly designed in High Detail Resin Grey with optimized wall thicknesses and an internal core structure that maximizes rigidity, ensuring a dead-straight, sag-free cylindrical body and micro-thin tail fins that resist drooping, bending, or thermal distortion over time across its substantial length.

Premium Material: High Detail Resin Grey

To satisfy the absolute highest demands of micro-detailed static presentation across delicate scale naval architecture and specialized deck ordnance, this Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo is crafted exclusively from premium High Detail Resin Grey.

  • Exceptional Feature Definition: This premier formula achieves surgical multi-dimensional precision and an ultra-smooth, non-porous surface finish, capturing the finest mechanical facets—from scale-thin propeller blades and fin trailing edges to miniature casing rivets and exploder screws—with absolute sharpness and zero layer line distraction.
  • Professional Foundation: Provides an ultra-smooth base specifically optimized for high-quality marine primers, metallic lacquers, fine-scale technical pin-washes, chipping mediums, micro-masking, and authentic wartime IJN finishes, ensuring flawless paint adherence.
  • Superior Quality: Manufactured by distefan 3d print, ensuring clean surfaces, true axial symmetry, and outstanding structural integrity for a luxurious, professional-grade finish.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Accurate 1/72 Scale Precision: Precision-engineered for seamless, historically proportional integration with standard 1/72 scale Japanese naval models, scratch-built destroyer decks, and museum-grade static displays.
  • Historically Authentic Fleet Ordnance: Faithfully represents the physical configuration of the standardized 61 cm Type 93 pure-oxygen torpedo deployed across IJN destroyers, cruisers, and torpedo squadrons throughout World War II.
  • Unified High-Integrity Architecture: Combines the warhead, oxygen chamber, engine casing, tail fins, and propeller hubs into a cohesive, high-integrity unit, eliminating tedious multi-piece gluing, crooked tail fins, and messy seam filling along the cylindrical body.
  • Lightweight Rigidity: Features an engineered structural profile that maintains exceptional structural stiffness across the long, slender cylindrical body while ensuring featherlight attachment inside elevated torpedo mounts.
  • Unpainted Finish: Arrives completely unpainted, providing an open canvas for custom finishing. Customize the weapon to reflect operational frontline finishes, including blackened warheads, polished natural steel flasks, and bright bronze propeller hubs.
  • The Definitive Surface Warfare Weapon Overhaul: Replaces simplified, featureless plastic kit cylinders with a sophisticated, mechanically correct three-dimensional representation of the most lethal naval torpedo in maritime history.

A Canvas for Battle-Tested Fleet Artistry

Arriving in its raw finish, the 1/72 IJN Type 93 Long Lance Torpedo serves as the ultimate starting point for advanced multi-layer painting, precise component color-blocking, and realistic maritime weathering.

  • The Imperial Navy Ordnance Scheme: Base-coat the central oxygen vessel and main body casing in authentic bare steel, burnished metal lacquer, or dark gunmetal graphite to replicate high-tensile cold-drawn steel. Paint the forward explosive warhead in semi-gloss black or dark olive drab matching IJN munitions storage regulations, picked out with a distinct narrow red or yellow inspection band behind the nose cone. Detail the delicate counter-rotating propellers and rudder linkages in warm marine bronze, polished brass, or dark oily iron.
  • Realistic Frontline Operational Weathering: Stowed on open weather deck reload tracks or handled across spray-soaked steel decks during high-speed night runs in the Solomon Islands, these torpedoes exhibited distinct service wear. Apply rich dark raw umber and soot black oil pin-washes into the casing segment seams, around the nose fuze pocket, and behind the tail fin hinges to establish deep structural shadow definition. Add realistic operational touches like delicate grease streaks along the tail control linkages and propeller shafts, subtle bare-metal scuffs along the lateral guide studs where the weapon contacted the launch tube guide rails, and faint dried white sea-salt mineral crusting along the lower body to capture the true look of a combat-ready weapon prepared for a midnight torpedo attack.
